"Logicalis SMC had a good story to tell, with a particular focus on quality. The price was also right. But perhaps the most important factor was that Logicalis SMC anticipated on our needs."
- Gert van Lieshout, Teamlead Quality, Compliance and Processes -
The customer
Philips organises all its supporting business processes centrally, with a view to even greater efficiency. At corporate level, for example, there is a shared IT service center. P-BAS (Philips Business Application Services) is the preferred supplier in the field of business application knowledge and support (SAP).
The challenge
Gert van Lieshout, who as Teamlead Quality, Compliance and Processes is responsible for quality issues, explains why ServiceCenter was due for an upgrade: “Its management was spread across various business units. That didn’t make things any clearer. The configuration we used was not designed with organisational changes in mind. And business units such as HR and finance, which use sensitive data, also had to be connected to the central IT support, but the required data separation was not in place. Nor was there an adequate management reporting tool and the volume of customised work made the management too complex.”
The solution
After a supplier selection process, the project was awarded to Logicalis SMC, and not only because Logicalis SMC was already a supplier to Philips. Van Lieshout: “Logicalis SMC had a good story to tell, with a particular focus on quality. The price was also right. But perhaps the most important factor was that Logicalis SMC anticipated our needs. We wanted an out-of-the box solution, with the least possible customisation.”
The benefits
Van Lieshout is impressed by Logicalis SMC: “As well as their knowledge, they brought a good working atmosphere and an element of fun to the project. There was constant interaction with the consultants from Logicalis SMC. Sometimes they stayed here on-site until late to get the work finished. They even brought personnel with the right expertise over from the UK.” And that was necessary, because the deadline was ambitious. The project had to be completed in three months. Philips had a major requirement, according to Van Lieshout: “If Logicalis SMC had taken an overly commercial stance, that would have had long-term consequences in terms of controllability. Logicalis SMC handled that extremely well, and that’s where their strength lay. We can now manage with fewer people. The project is therefore a nice example of our own ‘Sense and Simplicity’ slogan.”
