, Aug 13, 2021

The CRN Women in Channel Awards take place every year to shine a light on the IT leaders, influencers, exceptional employees and role models who will inspire the next generation. We’re extremely proud to have five of our wonderful women nominated. Meet Tina, who is nominated for the Unsung Hero award.

Name: Tina Nicolas

Job title: HR Business Partner

Nominated for: Unsung Hero

What’s your favourite part of the job? I think for me it’s the impact you make in people’s lives. From the moment someone thinks about joining the business, through to their interview process, their onboarding, support available while they are with us and even when leaving the business, we get to be a key part in their Logicalis experience. We have had a focus on wellbeing this year and want to make sure that it is a meaningful conversation – not just something done to check a box. We have had some really positive feedback from our employees about how it had affected their approach to things inside and outside of work, and for me, that’s why I love my job.

What did you want to be when you were young? When I was younger, I wanted to be a pilot, I was always fascinated with planes and always wanted to learn how to operate them, but I’ve never been good in emergency situations so decided that being a pilot probably wasn’t the career choice for me!

What is the proudest achievement in your career? I think for me it was when I got CIPD qualified in HR Management, I was working full time and trying to juggle that with studying wasn’t easy, but it was definitely worth it!

What’s something interesting you have done over the last year? Ive started to learn Spanish…! “Hola, buenos dias, como estas”

How have you acted as a role model to other women in business? And what do you think would encourage more women into technical roles?

I think I’ve acted as a role model to the junior members of the HR team, for me one of the biggest parts of my job that I love is all about developing people and mentoring, I am currently working with my HR Coordinator on getting her involved in more day-to-day operational HR work to build up her development and knowledge in this area.

I think things like “women in IT” or “women in tech” events would go a long way in encouraging women to get into technical roles, I’ve done something similar in previous companies and would love to be able to run something like this at Logicalis in the future and get female leaders across the business and the wider industry to speak about their experiences in the IT world. We want to demonstrate the value of women in IT and tech and demonstrate what a brilliant career path they can have by hearing first-hand what a rewarding and fulfilling industry it is.
